The staff of Speech Works by Elissa, LLC are licensed and certified professionals* in the areas of communication, reading and/or movement disorders who are encouraged to consult with physicians, educators, administrators, program directors, parents of children experiencing speech, language, reading and motor-related disorders.

Elissa R. Mandel is the previous director of the Henderson Speech, Hearing & Language Center and Director and foudner of Speech works by Elissa, LLC. She is known for her specialties in the area of aural rehabilitation, auditory processing, behavioral modificfation and motor planning disorders. Since her arrival in Las Vegas, she has had an overwhelming passion and desire to improve the quality and availability of speech and hearing services, as well as other limited services  in the Las Vegas area.

Elissa R. Mandel has over 20 years experience in the field of Speech and Language Pathology. Elissa R. Mandel, CCC-SLP, holds a Masters Degree in Speech/Language Pathology with a specialty in Aural Rehabilitation from Gallaudet University in DC and a Masters Degree in Special Education. She attended courses at St. John's University Doctoral Program in New York in the area of Instructural Leadership with an emphasis on Learning Styles. She is currently attending Florida Institute of Technology's professional development program in behavior analysis to meet requirements for certification as Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).

At Gallaudet University, she acquired fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) while residing in a deaf community, was first introduced to Cued Speech (CS) and was educated in bilingualism. In addition, she did her clinical practicum in the areas of Auditory-Verbal Training for children with cochlear implants, Applied Behavioral Analysis - behavioral therapy and Hippo therapy - the use of a horse as a treatment tool.

She obtained her Teacher of Speech & Hearing Handicapped (TSHH) Certificate and licensure in New York State and Certificate of Clinical Competency from the American Speech and Language Association (ASHA). She currently holds Nevada and Florida state licensure. Her previous experience include: working at the Clark County School District specializing with hearing impaired and autism programs. In New York, she was employed at Board of Cooperative Education Services schools (BOCES) in Nassau County in a variety of special education facilities, staff at St. Mary's Hospital for Children of Bayside and owned a private practice. In addition, she assisted in founding the Pal-O-Mine Equestrian Therapeutic Center, a non-profit organization offering therapeutic horseback riding and Hippotherapy. 

She specializes in aural rehabilitation for deaf/hard of hearing and auditory processing disorder as related to reading deficits.  In addition, she targets motor planning disorders such as apraxia, speech and language development for autism spectrum disorders and specializes in behavioral modification.  She also has varied experience with other disorders, such as Traumatic Brain Injury, Syndrome related disorders and Cerebral Palsy.


 

 

 

*Speech language pathologists are certified by the American Speech Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) and licensed by the State of Nevada Board of Examiners for Audiology and Speech Pathology.
